ITINERARY: 8 days tour from Marrakech to Marrakech
DAY 1 : ARRIVAL TO MARRKECH – TRANSFER TO THE HOTEL/RIAD
DAY 2: MARRAKECH – HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS – AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH – OUARZAZATE – SKOURA – ROSE VALLEY – DADES VALLEY
After your breakfast, we will be waiting for you in the lobby of your hotel. We will meet you there and pick you up at 08:00 AM to show you around some southeast parts of our beautiful country. Crossing the highest road in Morocco, the Tizi n’Tichka pass in the High Atlas mountains, we will stop along the way for outstanding pictures of the Berber villages, landscapes, and nature.
In 4 hours, we will arrive at the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified castle and UNESCO World Heritage Site where popular movies such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia have been filmed. After visiting this extraordinary site, you can have lunch either in the village of Ait Ben Haddou or at our next stop in Ouarzazate, which is half an hour’s drive away.
In Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Africa, you will visit and discover the Atlas Studios, the world’s largest film studio. Afterwards, we will drive through the road known as the “Road of Thousands of Kasbahs” to the town of roses in Morocco, Kelaat M’Gouna. Here, you can see pink flowers everywhere alongside the road during springtime and learn how people there make different products from roses.
Eventually, we arrive at Boumalne Dades or Dades Valley, a calm town with a beautiful green valley. You will spend your first night in a hotel or riad with dinner included.
DAY 3: BOUMALNE DADES – TODGHA GORGE – ERFOUD – SAHARA
After your breakfast at your hotel, our team will pick you up for your second day of the tour. Leaving the town of Boumalne Dades, we will head towards Tinghir, where you will visit the astonishing Todgha Gorge, a place visited all year round by rock climbers from around the world. You might be lucky enough to see climbers in action during your visit. Not far from the gorge, nomads still live in caves and come with their animals (sheep, goats, donkeys) for water.
Next, we will head to Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and fresh dates from the large valley of Ziz. In about an hour’s drive, we will arrive at the beautiful Sahara desert of Merzouga, one of the most visited sites in Africa. Overnight in a hotel next to the dunes.
DAY 4: SAHARA DESERT SIGHTSEEING
After your breakfast at the hotel, our driver/guide will pick you up by Jeep for one of the best experiences in the desert. Your visit to the Merzouga area starts from your hotel, driving by the high dunes of the desert. First, we will stop for a panoramic view of the Sahara from a high mountain close to the dunes. Then, we will visit nomad families living next to the Moroccan/Algerian border to learn about their culture and how they live in a harsh environment, sitting under their tents while having a cup of Berber whiskey (mint tea).
Next, we will resume our trip to the M’fis mascara mountain mine, where you can explore and learn how workers extract minerals from the heart of the mountains. From there, we will drive to Khamlia village, settled by the “black-skinned” people who are famous for their Gnawa music. Here, you can try Berber pizza, a recommended meal in this area, and enjoy listening and dancing to Gnawa music played by these friendly people.
Later, we will visit the Sahara Oasis for a walk among its almond, palm, and fig trees and different vegetable plants. From there, we will drive you back to the hotel to get ready for a camel ride to the camp on the other side of the desert. Your camel man will be waiting next to the dunes to take you to the desert camp. The camel ride takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, including a stop to watch the incredible sunset in the middle of the desert. Your camel guide will take several memorable pictures of you along the ride to the camp.
Upon arrival at the well-equipped camp, you will be welcomed with Moroccan tea and some cookies by the camp workers. After an hour, the staff will serve you a delicious dinner, then they will make a fire outside the camp under a sky full of stars, where they will play Berber and African music while you enjoy and dance around the fire. Overnight at the desert camp.
DAY 5: MERZOUGA – RISSANI – ALNIF – ZAGORA DESERT:
Life is about getting up an hour early to live an hour more, but on this day in the desert, it’s worth waking up early for what may be the best sunrise of your life. After breakfast at the camp, there are two options to return to the village of Merzouga to recommence our trip: either by camels or by Jeep. We depart the pretty desert to Rissani town, the closest to the Erg Chebbi, with its legendary history between the 14th and 18th centuries. You will explore the largest Market/Souk in the area, mainly the sheep and cattle market. Then, we continue our way to Alnif, Taghbalt. We will seize any opportunity to enjoy the sceneries along the drive to our destination, the Zagora desert, to know the difference between the two Saharas in Morocco. Spend the night in Zagora in a hotel or riad, including dinner and breakfast.
DAY 6: ZAGORA DESERT – OUARZAZATE – TELOUET KASBAH - Marrakech:
After your breakfast in Zagora, we will head directly to our next large destination, Marrakech. Driving along the longest valley in Morocco, the Draa Valley, full of palm trees, offers an outstanding panorama. We will pass by Ouarzazate city, the Hollywood of Africa. On our way, we visit one Kasbah, Telouet or Glaoui palace, an abandoned castle built starting from 1860. Lunch will be either in Telouet town or later in the High Atlas mountains as we cross the Tichka pass, enjoying beautiful landscapes, nature, and muddy Berber villages over the road. Afterward, we continue to Marrakech and drop you off at your hotel/riad.
DAY 7: MARRAKECH SIGHTSEEING
In the morning at 09:30 am, your local guide will be waiting for you at the reception of your hotel/riad. Your guide will accompany and show you all the historical sites of the red city Marrakech, including Jamaa El-Fna Square, one of the main cultural spaces in Marrakech founded in the 11th century and considered one of the busiest squares in the world, and the Saadian dynasty (1578-1603). In addition to Bahia Palace, one of Marrakech’s most impressive buildings, built at the end of the 19th century and intended to be the most eye-catching palace of all times. Moreover, the 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque, the most important and largest place of worship at that time. Later on, you will stroll inside the narrow streets of the old Medina (Old City) and visit Souks/Markets. After lunch in one of the restaurants in the old medina, you hit the road to the modern area. You will visit Majorelle Garden and the YSL Museum, then you will be picked up and taken back to your hotel/riad.
DAY 8: TRANSFER TO MARRAKECH AIRPORT OR CASABLANCA AIRPORT:
Your 8-day tour comes to an end after a lot of adventure during your stay in Morocco. Our team will make sure to transfer you to the Menara airport in Marrakech or Casablanca airport 2 or 3 hours before your departure so as not to miss your flight back home.
This tour can start/end at both Marrakech and Casablanca airports.
