Overview

Our 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will take you deep into the heart of the Sahara Desert. Excursions departing from Marrakesh to the desert include stops at Ait Ben Haddou, Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley, and the Todgha Gorges. Your second day in the Sahara will include a camel ride over the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes, followed by an evening in a sumptuous tent under the star-studded sky for which the Sahara is renowned. Visit several quaint Berber villages and admire the breathtaking scenery of the Atlas Mountains on way to the Sahara.

ITINERARY: 3 days tour from Marrakech to Marrakech

Day 1 : Marrakech - Ait Benhaddou - Boumalene du Dades

After breakfast, we will be waiting for you at the lobby of your hotel. Our team will meet you there and pick you up at 08:00am to show you around some of the southeastern parts of our beautiful country. Your journey begins by crossing the highest road in Morocco, the Tizi n Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we will stop for outstanding pictures of the Berber villages, landscapes, and nature. After a 4-hour drive, we will arrive at one of the famous Kasbahs, a fortified castle that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This site has been the backdrop for popular movies such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and many more.

We will make a visit to this extraordinary site, followed by lunch either in the village of Ait Ben Haddou or at our next stop in Ouarzazate, which is a half-hour drive away. In Ouarzazate, also known as the Hollywood of Africa, you will visit and discover the Atlas Studios, the world’s largest film studio.Afterward, we will drive through the road known as the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” to the town of roses in Morocco, Kelaat M’Gouna. Here, you can see the pink flowers everywhere alongside the road during springtime and learn how the locals make different products from roses.Eventually, we will arrive at Boumalne Dades, also known as the Dades Valley. This calm town features a beautiful green valley. You will spend your first night in a hotel or riad, with dinner included.

Day 2 : Boumalene du Dades - Toudra Gorge - Merzouga

After your breakfast at the hotel, our team will pick you up for your second day of the tour. We will leave the town of Boumalne Dades and head towards Tinghir, home to the astonishing Todra Gorge. This place is visited year-round by rock climbers from all over the world. You may be lucky enough to see them climbing during your visit. The area is also home to nomads who still live in caves, bringing their animals (sheep, goats, donkeys) to the gorge for water.

Next, we will drive to Erfoud, a town famous for its fossils and fresh dates from the large Ziz Valley. After an hour’s drive, you will arrive at the beautiful Sahara Desert of Merzouga, one of the most visited sites in Africa. Your camel man will be waiting for you next to the dunes to take you on a camel ride to the desert camp. The ride takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes, including a stop for an incredible sunset at the top of a high dune in the middle of the desert. Your camel guide will take several memorable pictures for you along the ride.

Upon arrival at the well-equipped camp, you will be welcomed with Moroccan tea and cookies. In an hour, the staff will serve you a delicious dinner. After dinner, they will make a fire outside the camp under a sky full of stars. Enjoy and dance around the fire to the rhythm of Berber and African music. Overnight at the desert camp.

Day 3 : Merzouga - Rissani - Ouarzazate - Marrakech

Life is getting up an hour early to live an hour more, but on this day in the desert, for witnessing one that may be the best sunrises in your whole life, we always advise you to wake up early. After a breakfast at the camp, there are two optional ways to get back to the village of Merzouga to recommence our trip: either by camels or by Jeep.

We depart the pretty desert to Rissani town, the closest to the Erg Chebbi, with a legendary history between the 14th and 18th centuries. You will explore the largest Market/Souk in the area, mainly sheep and cattle market. Then we continue our way to Alnif, and Tazarin to N’kob for lunch. After lunch, we head to Ouarzazate along the Anti-Atlas, the red town, passing through the unique and highest road of the previous day, the Tichka pass in the High Atlas mountains. Finally, we arrive in Marrakech and drop you off at your hotel/riad in Marrakech, ending the trip.
