ITINERARY: 4 days tour from Fes to Marrakech
DAY 1: FEZ – IFRANE – MIDELT – ZIZ VALLEY – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA
We will be leaving Fez straightway to Merzouga desert. You first have breakfast at your riad then our adventure for today starts. Our first station to visit is Ifrane city, known as the Swiss of Morocco with orderly red-roofed houses. From there we will be at the Cedar forests of Azrou, where Barbary apes live. Our next stop is Midelt, the mineral mining and apple town lying between the two high Atlas and middle Atlas mountains. We have our lunch here, then recommence our way to Tizi N’Tlghamt “camel pass”, then to Errachidia. We will stop for a panoramic view in Ziz Valley, driving through to Erfoud, and finally to Merzouga desert, where you spend your first night in hotel/riad.
Day 2 : Merzouga Sightseeing
After your breakfast at the hotel, our driver/guide will pick you up by Jeep for one of the best experiences in the desert. Your visit to the Merzouga area starts from your hotel, driving by the high dunes of the desert. First, we stop for a panoramic view of the Sahara from a high mountain close to the dunes. Then, we drive to visit nomad families living next to the Moroccan/Algerian border to learn about their culture and how they live in such a harsh environment, sitting under their tents while having a cup of Berber Whiskey (mint tea).
After that, our trip resumes to the M’ifis mascara mountain mine. You’ll explore and get an idea of how workers extract minerals from the heart of the mountains. From there, we head to Khamlia village, settled by the “black-skinned” people, who are famous for their Gnawa music all around the world. Here, you can try Berber Pizza, a recommended meal in Morocco that this area is famous for, while listening and dancing to Gnawa music played by these friendly people.
Later, we visit the Sahara Oasis for a walk among its almond, palm, and fig trees, as well as various vegetable plants. From there, we drive you back to the hotel to get ready for a camel ride to the camp located on the other side of the desert. Your camel man awaits you next to the dunes to lift you by his camels to the desert camp. The camel ride takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, including an amazing stop for an incredible sunset in the middle of the desert. Your camel guide will take several memorable pictures for you along the ride to the camp.
Upon arriving at the well-equipped camp, you will be welcomed with Moroccan tea and some cookies by the camp workers. In an hour, the staff will serve you a delicious dinner, followed by a fire outside the camp under a sky full of stars, where they will play Berber and African music for you to enjoy and dance around the fire. Overnight at the desert camp.
DAY 3: MERZOUGA – RISSANI – TOUDRA GORGE – DADES VALLEY
Life is getting up an hour early to live an hour more, but on this day in the desert. For witnessing one that may be the best sunrises in your whole life, we always advise you to wake up early. After breakfast at the camp, there are two optional ways to get back to the village Merzouga for recommencing our trip. Either by camels or by Jeep. We depart the pretty desert to Rissani town, the closest to the Erg Chebbi. With the legendary history between the 14th and 18th centuries, you explore the largest Market/Souk in the area, mainly sheep and cattle market. After Rissani, we will continue to Tinghir, the town where Toudra Gorge is located. You visit the astonishing Canyons of Toudra Gorge, a place visited all year round by worldwide rock climbers for adventuring. You may be lucky to see them climbing during your visit. A place not far from where nomads still live in caves, they come with their animals (sheep, goats, donkeys) for water, also taking water with them for their home use. Then you hit the road to the beautiful Dades valley, a calm Berber town, with a beautiful green valley filled with fruit trees. Spend night with dinner and breakfast included.
DAY 4: DADES VALLEY – ROSE VALLEY – SKORA – OUARZAZATE – AIT BEN HADOU KASBAH – HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS – MARRAKECH
You enjoy your breakfast at your riad, then take the road named thousands kasbahs. From Dades valley to Ouarzazate, passing Kelaat M’gouna, the city of roses, and Skoura town. We arrive at Ouarzazate town, referred to as Hollywood of Africa. Here you explore the Atlas film studio. Then we proceed to the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a historical backdrop for several famous movies, including Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia. We have lunch at this unique spot, then we make our way to Marrakech, always through the breathtaking landscapes of the Atlas mountains, through Berber villages, and Tizi N’tichka, the highest pass in Morocco.
